Kochebi lake

The resort place Mlashe  Tba (salty lake)  belongs to the climatic resort place type, locals call it “the lake of the Kochebis”. This little lake is situated between the Shiraki plain and the Iori upland. The distance from Dedoplistskaro is 4 km, 800 meters above sea level. The water capacity is 1,060,200 m³, and the drainage size is 1,3 km². According to one of the scientific findings, Kochebi Lake is a remnant of the Caspian Sea. During the Soviet Era, the recreational zone was established along the banks of the lake; the former infrastructure was destroyed.

Due to climate change and other unknown factors, the water level in Lake Kochebi declined between 2018 and 2020, and the lake nearly dried up.

In 2024, the artificial filling of Lake Kochebi with fresh water began. Currently, the lake’s ecosystem is in a recovery process.
